Sally O'Malley has defiantly had a summer to remember.

Set in the summer of 1959, Whistling in the dark focuses on the turbulent life of the O'Malley sisters. After their mother is hospitalized, ten year old Sally and nine year old Troo O'Malley are left in the care of an alcoholic and abusive step father and a disinterested older sister. Thanks to a neighborhood of vastly different but caring characters, the girls find hot meals and watchful eyes. Unfortunately, Sally is also under the watchful eye of a predator. After the abuse and murder of two neighborhood girls, Sally knows she is next - unless she can find and stop the killer first.

With many twists and turns, Lesley Kagen has written a marvelous and heart warming story about life, love, and growing up.








Talk about shopping trips from heck! A recent buying trip for books to Toronto and Boston turned ugly. Five cancelled flights and a snowstorm that left us wishing we were home, meant we spent more time in airports than shopping! Still, we managed to find 1000’s of titles to fill our shelves this spring. These wonderful books are arriving daily in our stores. From great book club picks, to gorgeous kid’s books, we hope you enjoy the selection. It is the best part of my job finding those gems for you the book lover. We all enjoy a bargain these days and Black Bond shops carefully all over North America for interesting books we can offer at amazing prices.

Black Bond welcomes Book Clubs! Be sure to ask at the store for our Book Club discounts. Register your group and request copies in store, and we will give you an extra discount. Our staff of book lovers has some great suggestions for your picks. We also have an in house hand-out for forming new clubs.

Mothers Day is up and coming, as is Grad season. Books make a loving, caring gift that gives back over time. Drop in for some great suggestions for your special person, or occasion.

Plastic bags have become an issue for us all. I, for one, would be happy not have to order any more of these, but we will continue to offer choice to our customers. Our enviro bags should be back in stock in the coming weeks. They will be offered free with a $40.00 purchase or $1.99 each, to cover the cost. We hope to do what ever we can to be part of making our communities green thinking. We recently added a bike rack to our South Surrey Warehouse store making it possible for you to ride your bike to Black Bond, and secure it safely.

I know we are all looking forward to summer reading, in our favourite outdoor spots. Here’s to a season of good books, and great weather!
